Reply " ALL ABOUT CAMP 2001 "

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think we need to re-live some of the moments from the summer of 2001, that way everyone will understand and we can all have a laugh reading other peoples stories. I aint proposing that we go through every nagging detail ( unless people want to ) but just put up things that u laughed at and things or people that u will never forget and so on.

The things i will remember from 2001 are:

- Pioneers winning again ( altough i was a mariner )

A very emotional moment for me as i was in the first

pioneer team to win in 2000. Pioneers forever.

- The success of ALA for the second year running

Not just the staff acts but the kids where amazing.

Pete, Paul and ryan all worked their asses off and I

Hope it was worth it to them.

- " Up All Night " ( the OD song )

Amazing what you can do when u got 2 guitars, 2

bored guys, and a idea. Pete that song will be an

Anthem at camp somehow someway i promise.

- The music program in itself

Pete and John 2 of the best guys to work with. Put up

With my laziness all summer and some great ideas and

With Jons Lyrics And Petes Riff's we couldnt go wrong.

- Working With the best unit ever "Navigatos good to go"

The closest unit on camp. Brothers united. Always

remember were u came from. We ran our own unit.

- Pillow sumo Unit Game ( jump and Bump )

Stuck for something to do. One of my brain-waves of

the summer ( which there was very few ). An Ordinary

CAP turned Legendary performance. Keep it going.

- Muskeget Vistory dance

Joe Liddiard ur a nutter and so were the kids. Even

though 6 out of 8 were homesick they all got through

And joe got through without strangling christian lol.

- Mission Impossible live

This was a Kick ass show. Another of my stupid ideas

which came off. The kids loved it and so did we playing

Remeber the table lol.

hope that has reminded some of u guys of the fun we had and i cant wait to here ur stories.

Speak to you all later

Gary

Great Stuff

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gary; that message was fantastic! Brought back loads of memories - here's a couple more, on the spot:

-Joe's 'hopealong cassidy' during OD.

-The getaway truck scene in our new M.I-type game.

-Elliott getting tied up to the point where it was almost dangerous by the whole of Tuckernuck at the end of M+P

-ALA again, and all the other bits of strumming that we got through. Inlcuding the many songs we wrote during OD, and while John was teaching our interest group.

-The EPIC table-tennis matches.

-Whose Line Is It Anyway - the party round.

-Me walking into a)the glass door in Boston, and b)the sign at the ampitheatre.

-The unit meetings and incessant bitching.

-The floating lifejackets experiment.

-Everything else about the navigators.

-Me and Paul's ill-advised costumes for science-fiction carnival. Let's just say we didn't think it through.

-The Proclaimers (me and el were THIS close to doing a full rendition at closing campfire).

-The under-pressure second-serve ace in the epic tennis match.

-'I see dead people'

-'Pete likes being tickled' -noooooooooooo!!!!!

-EVERY campfire. Including the Match of the Day and 'E's only gorn and dun it' Cheers.

-the Red and Blue sky at the ampitheatre at the M+P opening campfire.

-so much else I don't even know where to start. Every day in the navigators was just laughing 24 hours a day, music was great fun, and....oh, hang on-

-me swallowing a bee and getting stung so hard that my lip looked like mick jagger's.

more to come. btw, gary, I take it that you're going back from all that you've said.....

'Don't call me Willow'.

I'm gonna have to come back to this but here's the ones that spring to mind

GAry and petes last ever campfire song (2001) - followed by pete hitting the sign, and a bout of uncontrolled laughting at the most inappropriate monment.

pass the stick unit meetings - it did not kill us it only made us stronger!

a 90 minute football match in miday heat, of which 30 minutes was golden goal extra time, my mistake leading to us losing, and all those missed sitters and great saves.

Big Josh "I hate this camp, I want choclate, candy, a visor and a electric fan"- can you send this letter home for me? yeap just after you do deep water swimming relay- a sabotage for the pioners!!! starbursts

YOu can't eat meet !!(urgggg)

"some one stuck a twizzler in my bed"- best heard in a agrivated voice tone

'I like my visor, no one else on camp has an orange visor"- john the crying one

JOe talking french to the two canadian kids that didn't now any english, but left camp being able to point out "which ways the beach!"

"Stop playing with me donnay,"- william "he keeps sooting me"

The one match specialists me and pete going through about 50 matches trying to light a campfire. the exsesant use of bug spray (BY the way i just mentioned an overnight expereince as one of my faviourite moments- just remember all those days of overnight tantrums. by the way sorry Rob!, co's fellow members of staff, i'm working hard that should i be lucky enougth to be accepted back to camp, that i ain't gonna say "i can't see the point of sleeping outside", at all next year- although i will still be praying for rain)

overhearing A kid going home telling his mum that shaun won the seventh best cooker of maccaroni and cheese award in britain.

petes photography skills, heres a cabin, the campfire , a cabin, the campfire, a cabin etc etc

petes programme manager proposals- cap 2 a trip to euro disney, and if we don't get that we'll do a nature walk.

the navigator list of creative programming- Gary continually noting they enjoyment factor of hug a tree.

me saying Pete i don't know why, but that kid just really doesn't like me- pete agreeing!

Highlife- the champaigne of beers!

me coming back after time off and writing down a whole bunch of memories on the maintenance request forms.

all staff campfire sing alongs, i guess campfies

A+C tie dye day, a high frequency of horrible or very pink shirts, being given the standard response- oh "Nice shirt"

josh v jack pillow sumo (what a great idea)

Bad cop / worse cop followed by oh were sorry

drop and gi me 20

shaving cream , wool , torches. a little too much excitement!

finding some kid had taken a @#%$ in the middle of the room,

interigating them and finding the culprit.- then collecting the clean up stuff to find out paulhad already cleaned up all the mess - cheers paul

Me telling joe the kids have got to much energy to get to sleep, and Joe inventing the "Lets run them" idea- following 100 times up and down the navigator filed- and the kids asking if they could go on to run 150!!!

staff banquett, we got to sing the proclaimers after all!!!

can i?- noowe (often pronounced no), can i go to the toilet? noowe - pete if i kept saying noowe- how did we continually manage to only have me and you at the table during meals?

a certain kid banging his head into his birthday cake- lloydy asking us to clean him up now, and me and pete pondering whether he was joking!- oh and he wasn't

the navigators the good times, and being helped through the bad. - HAPPY DAYS!!!

cheers everyone!

good times

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

El,

Again, you made me realise how many great times there were last summer. Some of the stuff I'd almost forgotten, but just reading about it made me laugh out loud. Josh doing pillow-sumo, and just Josh being Josh for two weeks was classic. The vegetarian diet moments still make me laugh out loud. When we switched him back to being a carnivore, how many chicken burgers did that boy eat? 8? 9?..I lost count.

Andrew sticking his face in the birthday cake was great, as were your attempts to get to the bottom of his last-day madness. 'Why have you turned into a muppet?'.

The Josh letter is still probably my best moment of camp, the fact that it wasn't addressed and was written on top of an email he'd got was priceless.

That Golden Goal was amazing; but when I think back, 'Alan Shearer' scored 8 in about 10 minutes, but missed 20 chances in the last half-hour- that makes me a bit suspicious . I reckon he just liked seeing us run about in 100 degree heat for as long as possible. Either that or they were over-tired themselves after a pulsating 90 minutes.

I forgot that one of my favourite moments was when Cody arrived and his mum handed over the sword to me and joe. We stared at her with a look of sheer horror, not knowing that he was a martial arts expert.

Another classic (joe must have loads of these written down cos we made a massive list) was me running to the door of Cuttyhunk to greet one of the new campers, introducing myself and showing him to a bunk, then hearing his dad say -'Um...we're just passing through actually, he's not staying at camp this year'.

The other great bit you forgot El, was my nightmare on the overnight, when I woke up, and knowing that I'd had a bit of a shocking dream, you just screamed in my face and scared me half to death.

And you forgot about those Michael Caine moments.....

And my attempts at hemp.

Others I forgot were:

-the game me gary, paul and anita played at the train station. Not the card game - there was one magic moment that I'm not at liberty to divulge.

-The 'Everybdoy Hurts' alternative lyrics at the lodge.

-Dom rapping round the campfire in Session One. Or should I say 'The Rock', Gary?

-The singalong in the thunderstorm (beach-party cancelled)-Angel by Shaggy feat. Tuckernuck.

-Derek's hitting streak in the home-run derby.

-Bridge-building!

-Joe getting identical twins (not literally)

-''Lice' photo session. And Me and El's close encounter with a CIT (count dracula-in-training).

Let's hear some more......

Re: Too Funny

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

just arrived home from the pub, so my typing might go awol.

It did spark my memory of a couple of bits and pieces though;

-the whole of the m+p barbecue was hilarious, but I distinctly remember Elliot picking up Jeff as a joke, and then dumping him to the ground really hard.

-hidng in a cupboard before at least one unit meeting.

-MELLON!!! remember that in the meetings?

-the hemp tickling at the end of every session.

-joe and me getting attacked by flies on the walk to the staff banquet round the lake.

-the carboard cut-out of the man from 'Atlantis' that me, alex, dave and tom got from Hyannis Cinema, and hoisted up the flagpole.

-gary: the 'horse pucky' song, the 'in a minute' riff, and the destroyed versions of nirvana tunes.....

on top of this, one of the most memorable moments of the summer was our staff overnight with geert playing jeff buckley on his acoustic guitar by the campfire. Top stuff.

this is getting huge, but i guess lets keep it going,- i was inspired to get the Josh manefesto out of my folder of camp memorabelia, and discovered i'd slightly misquoted him- so i'll get that sorted out for historical accuracy.

but, more memo's

-hop along casiday bouncing down the stairs to shut up tuckernuck whilst not on od- i'll go raw

-Tim dog at the murder mystery game convincing the kids he really was mental

-Jeff v's pete and el- can you feel the love in this room?

- jeffs fine selection of music at joes inspired second dance- i'll get them into my music

- no being given enought plates for the overnight, and joe serving MAc and cheese to kids holding cardboard boxes

-After a rather traumatic day in drag- using up a wee kids entire allotment of nail polish remover- forgetting to raise the 1.39 to pay here back- that would have been nearly half of petes $3 wage!!

- we gotta hide in the cubords more often for those unit meetings

- whats funny in retrospect- petes inability to take a 9.30!!

-the rainy day billingsgate dance, pete and a guitar, only knowing one song the kids would know, and be entertained by, yeap it was a britney sing along, and the gymnastic kid extrovert dancing!

More of the same.....

-dom's musical torch at closing campfire!

-my inability to run the 'how many sweets in the bottle?' carnival day stall.

-a certain antipodean doing flagpole. Have I forgotten anyone; only 9 cabins, Stefan.

-Messages. Messages - for 20 minutes.

-Doon' talg wheel i'm talk'n. that's soooo not cuul. Thang u.

(you have to say that out loud, and you'll understand)

-the flagpole running jokes: bears in the woods -aaarrgghh!!

-El, you forgot probably the best one of ALL:

'....right, everyone get ready for beach party, get your towel, your suncream, get into your swimming stuff, and...why are there only 3 of you?' - I hope you remember this one, cos it was classic. If you remember it any better, post it on here, cos it still makes me laugh but I think I might have missed some of the detail!

by the way, -what's a 9.30? I don't think I ever had one....

I had forgotton, and it is a absolute classic, as was directing the tourist kid to his bed!

Here's the josh memo- word for word

"Please mom send me another packege with lots of candy and toys and a minny fan"

no signiture- but he did put his address on the other side of the email he'd just recived.

i also found the list that me and joe made of the funny stuff that happened during seasion 1

Meaning to say colin, joe goes raw

"the only person thats being sensible in this room is elliot"- i wasn't in the room!

I asked camper greg if he had any worst moments during the final cabin chat, he said..... "eh yeah.................someone stuck a twizler in my bed"

I ask william if he'll be coming back next year, he pounders the question and says....

"I'm taking a year out."

Williams parents arrive and he gets asked by his mum if he wants to come back, this time he answers yes, and says to me and Joe, " I'll see you in 2000 100 hours"

johns faviourite sentence (Whilst crying to me , joe , rob, gary, joe r, etc etc) "I miss my family..... I miss my family even more now"

John starts smiling at the last supper, joe says "stop smiling Johnny"

playing woops johnny johnny, Joe says to camper mike " don't make it to obvious,.... this game really annoys people!"

pete another classic- travis's mum. on insisting he gets moved up from billingsgate to allow him to hang out with those older than 10, we decide he should go home with his mum, as she was certainly old enougth (i can't remember the exact quote.)

chicken head man

Elkin saying "I got pissed off with them, when they left i kicked the wall, it nearly fell down, I hurt my foot!"

a kid saying to me on the last night, " last year on the last night when we went to sleep the tents came in and put shaving cream all over me"- i said how did you now it was them- "their the only ones old enougth to use shaving cream"- if only he'd carried on that logic a little further.

a camper singing along to the proclimers "Letter from America" during cabin clean up, it was the first time I put it on that seasion.(honest pete)

"Inappropriate conversation"

during rest hour, i woke up in the middle of the kids inventing a new game- spin the bottle and hump the wall.

el. those were classic, but I didn't have to read them three times! I'll delete the extra two when I can!

The thing about travis' mum was classic.

As was:

Josh saying 'so?' repeatedly on the last day.

and I don't know if you remember this, but in one rest period, some of our lot (campers) were, well, removing themselves from their trousers, and comparing notes. I forget which session, but we listened to the conversation from the other room, which was hilarious ('mine doesn't look like that'.etc), and then one of them came into the counsellor room. He said:

'they won't put their weeners away!', and there's wasn't a lot I could answer. I told him, 'what do you want me to do, confiscate it and give it back next friday?'.

I did think of lots of other funny stuff, including 'wise men say....only fools...'etc (el, u know what I mean), but we don't know who's going to access this site, so I'll leave it. For now.

Pete.

one liners

- Dont u know it is forbideen of a CIT to get it on with a councellor.

- I remember playing irish water polo. All my horses drowned

- i can play drums really

- MELON

El

another one I'd forgotten was garys alternative song words to make them appropriate for camp

namely oasis's classic "you musics not right" instead of a word that rimes with right,

and the nattleie imbrolia's "lying sleeping on the floor"

gary the words had me in stiches two years running!
